How to get to NTHU Physics department

I. By Car:  ( Current Highway Traffic )

      Via Highway No.1:
South bound:   Pull into the exit lane at 93.5KM. It will split into two very soon.
The right one leads you to Boulevard No.5 (公道五) immediately. If you want to take
KungFu road (光復路), keep on the left and continue south for 600M. The lane  will be
merged by another lane from the right. Carefully change to the right lane right after
the merge. It will lead you off the highway and directly take you into the KungFu road (光復路).
North bound:  take a bypass at 96.2KM, you can make a left turn into KungFu road (光復路)
at the first exit or you can go 500M farther to turn into Boulevard no.5 (公道五).
Both ways can lead  you to NTHU.

      By Highway No.3:
Switch to Highway No.1 at the Hsinchu intersection 100.7KM (100KM on Highway 1)
and continue north. Get off No.1 at 96.2KM.

II. By Express(from Taipei):
Free Go Bus, How-Tai Bus, Ya Lan Bus, King Bus and Hsinchu Bus provide frequent service
     between Taipei and Hsinchu.

Near the Taipei railway station, the highway express bus station (國道客運總站) is an integrated
hub for many long distance bus liners.  You can get on  How-Tai bus,  Hsinchu Bus, or  King Bus for
Hsinchu at this place. The average travel time is around 90 mins. depends on the highway traffic condition.

For visitors coming from the National Taiwan University, there are two Ya Lan bus stops, 懷恩堂 and
公館捷運站, conveniently located  by the NTU campus. So you don't need to go to the Taipei railway main station first.
However, there is a catch. This bus takes about 2 hours to get to Hsinchu.

For other bus liners, please refer to their web sites for the route map.

For the south bound bus, the first stop is for National Chiao-Tung University
which is only 100 meters from the highway. Usually, some guests get off here so
the bus makes a short stop right after leaving the high way.
Ring the bell when you are 1 block away from the high way.
The second stop is for National Tsing-Hua University, marked as the Yellow circle in the map below.
It is located right next to a pedestrian bridge, you won't miss it.
Keep your ticket, you are requested to submit it to the bus driver when you get off.

III. By Train (to railway timetable)

Get off at the Hsinchu railway station (real-time camera).
     You could either

     (1) Take Hsinchu city bus No. 1, 2 or 1甲.
The bus stop is located on MinTzu Road(民族路), marked as the green circle
in the map below, next to SOGO department store.
Pay NTW15 (exact change) on board.
(when you get on, drop the money into the box next to the driver)
The bus runs like every 40 mins but sometimes irregularly.
( to the suggesting bus timetable 1,1甲, 2)

Ring the bell  after you pass the KungFu high school(光復中學). The high school
will be  on your right. At the same time,  you could see an open hilly park on your
         left right across the street,
The bus should stop  soon after passing the TsingHua's main gate on your right.

or

(2) Take a cab right in front of the station lobby.
The fare is around NTW150(by meter), or NTW 200 (by  negotiation).
If you don't speak Chinese, you may want to print out the useful phrase sheet
to show it to the taxi driver.

IV. By Air (From CKS international airport)
There is NO direct bus commutes between Hsinchu and CKS airport.
( You are right, WTF!! ) You have to change bus either in
Taoyuan or ChunLi.

Taking bus by yourself is not recommended for the foreign visitors.
You can take a taxi or limo at the airport. Again, you might find
the Chinese phrase sheet useful.  The fare is roughly
around NTW 1500
and the traffic time is 30 mins bounded from below which easily
goes up to 2 hours if high way traffic jam happens.

Or you can contact us in advance to arrange
a limo for you.

V. By Sea?
Eh... So far I have no knowledge about getting here by sea.
But if you do make it arriving at the Nanliao Port,
take city bus #15 to Hsinchu railway station
and follow the instruction III to get to Tsing-Hua.
God bless you.
