單光子和雙光子的操控
相干時間長的光子是遠距離量子通訊(quantum communication)以及利用線性光學(linear
optics)方式實現量子計算(quantum computing)不可或缺的原素之一。近年來,我們利用冷原子(cold
atoms)裡的四波混頻(four-wave mixing)和慢光(slow light)效應產生相干時間長的雙光子(biphotons)或是單光子(single
photons)。我們亦發展了可以操控這些光子的波包(wavepackets)的技術。藉由調變波包的相位,
我們成功的將展頻技術(spread
spectrumtechnology)應用在單光子的層級上,使得單光子可以在充滿雜訊的環境中傳遞訊息[PRL 104,
223601(2010)]。我們也藉由調變波包的振幅發展出可以測量相干時間短的雙光子波包的新方法[PRA
80,031803(R) (2009)]。此方法只需要使用高速的光學調變器以及時間解析度不高的探測器。
冷原子和單光子之量子資訊處理
量子記憶體(quantum memory)是可以儲存並讀取量子態的物理系統。我們利用光學陷阱(opticaldipole
trap)和磁光陷阱(magneto-optical
trap)捕捉冷原子,並將原子製備於受磁場梯度干擾極小的時鐘態(clock states),以實現儲存時間長的DLCZ
型量子記憶體[Nature Phys. 5, 95 (2009), PRL 101,
120501(2008)]。藉由這些量子記憶體,我們實現了物質和光子之間的量子態的傳輸[Nature Phys. 4,
103 (2008)]。在這個實驗裡,一個光子所攜帶的偏振態被傳送到7
公尺外一個由冷原子組成的量子記憶體。被傳送的偏振態不僅被儲存於量子記憶體裡,並且可以在8μs
後成功的被讀取出來。具備量子記憶體功能的量子傳輸(quantum
teleportation)將是實現高效率、可延伸的量子網路(quantum
network)的關鍵。此外,我們也研究如何在單原子系統中利用微波脈衝序列抑制環境所引起的相位消相干[PRA 80,
032307 (2009)]。與使用單一微波脈衝的方式相比,多個微波脈衝將可使得系統的相干時間更長。
